Benito Martinez

Actor Biography

Benito Martinez recently wrapped filming in New Orleans and Atlanta, working opposite Tom Cruise, on the crime thriller Made in America, directed by Doug Liman and due for release in 2017. On the small screen you can see him as President Elect Robert Diaz on The Blacklist, or as A.D.A. Todd Denver, opposite Viola Davis, in How to Get Away with Murder. However, he is especially thrilled to be returning to American Crime for its third season as Luis Salazar, a desperate father coming to America in search of his missing teenage son.

Martinez is perhaps best known for his award-winning portrayal of Los Angeles politician David Aceveda for seven seasons on the critically acclaimed FX police drama The Shield. Additionally, he has enjoyed recurring roles on House of Cards, Sons of Anarchy and Supernatural. Other notable television credits include 24, TorchwoodNCIS: LA and Bones.  His big-screen credits include Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby, Bless Me, Ultima, Lies in Plain Sight (2011 NAACP Best Actor Nominee), Unthinkable, with Samuel L. Jackson, Saw and the newly released Beyond the Lights.

Benito – or Bennie as he is known to his family – grew up on a small ranch (complete with horses and chickens) in an artistic family in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and got his start on stage at the age of eight. At 16 years old, he moved to Los Angeles where he spent his senior year at Hollywood High Performing Arts Magnet. He later moved to London for three years and studied at the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) before returning to Los Angeles to pursue a career as an actor.
