Castle's Most Far Out Sci-Fi Moments
Castle and Beckett's investigations have brought them to some pretty strange places and in their latest episode, "The Wrong Stuff," a murder takes them to Mars! Okay, actually a simulated Mars environment but it still means that our favorite sleuths have to don spacesuits to examine the scene of the crime. As Castle exclaims, "Best. Case. Ever." And of course the 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Trek references just don't stop.
ALIEN ABDUCTIONS GONE WRONG
It's hardly the first case where his working theory is An Alien Did It. In "Close Encounters of the Murderous Kind," he tells Beckett, "I'm not asking you to dye your hair red and call me Mulder..." and makes his case for alien involvement in the bizarre death of an astrophysicist. And then they're abducted, not by aliens, but (just as suspiciously) by mysterious Men in Black. Bonus sci-fi points: The Terminator's Lance Henriksen guest stars as an alien abduction expert.
TIME TRAVELING TWISTER
And in the Season 6 episode, "Time Will Tell," Castle is ready to believe that Simon (guest star Joshua Gomez), a suspect who claims to be a time traveler, is the real deal. He even believes Simon's predictions that he and Beckett have three kids and she becomes a senator! Beckett, as always holds out for a logical explanation, but she can't explain away a key piece of evidence that she herself creates by accident.
AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE FROM HELL
And in "The Time of Our Lives," there's no logical explanation for the alternative universe Castle finds himself in when he touches an ancient relic -- a universe where he and Beckett never met and she's now Captain Beckett.
BECKETT'S A SCI-FI-LOVING, COSTUME-WEARING GEEK
We know Castle's a big geek -- he likes to dress up like a certain space captain at Halloween -- but let's not forget that Beckett's possibly an even bigger sci-fan than he is. Remember when he found out (in the Season 5 episode "The Final Frontier") about her youthful obsession with the short-lived space series Nebula-9?
THE INVISIBLE MAN ATTACKS!
And as much as we love Castle's crazy theories, sometimes it's just science -- and not science fiction - behind their wildest encounters, including The Invisible Man, in "Clear and Present Danger."
