Dancing with the Stars Recap: Who Was the First to be Eliminated?

Welcome to the official recap for the Season 21 Week 2 Hometown Glory episode of Dancing with the Stars (original airdate September 21, 2015). There were slick routines, a couple of stumbles and the first elimination of the season as we said goodbye to the Queen of Funk, Chaka Khan. Let’s take a look at all the highlights of the night in the Glitter Report!

Heavy Metal Moment: Bindi Irwin & Derek Hough wrapped up the night with a Tango to “You Shook Me All Night Long” by AC/DC. Bindi remembered dancing to this tune with her dad. As for what she did with Derek to it, well it was good enough to earn the first 9 of the season. See why!

In Val She Thrust: Tamar Braxton & Valentin Chmerkovskiy danced the Cha Cha to “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge. There was some debate about all the “thrusting” that was needed for the routine. Tamar and Val obviously worked it out before hitting the dance floor because their Cha Cha was top notch. The judges loved it and a trio of 8s popped up on the paddles.

An Intoxicating Effort: Alek Skarlatos & Lindsay Arnold did a nifty Jazz routine to “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey. The song reminded Alek of his childhood in Sacramento where he grew up with his two buddies who helped him thwart a terrorist attack on a train. For a guy who said he’d never danced before back in Week 1, Alek surely can’t say that anymore. Carrie Ann claimed she was “intoxicated” by him. So was the crowd.

Purr-fectly Entertaining: Alexa PenaVega & Mark Ballas did a little Salsa to Robi Rob’s "Boriqua Anthem” by C+C Music Factory. Alexa turned into catwoman for her first routine of Week 2. She did a purr-fectly entertaining dance that had the hearts pumping and caused the crowd to go wild.

Dance Softly and Carry a Big Hat: Victor Espinoza & Karina Smirnoff got their Jive on to “La Bamba” by Los Lobos. Well, Victor was sporting a really big hat for his really big routine. Carrie Ann said she’d give him a 10 if she were judging him on cuteness and enthusiasm.

All Smiles: Kim Zolciak Biermann & Tony Dovolani did the Quickstep to “Queen Bee” by Rochelle Diamante. After some fairly low 4s in her Week 1 scores, Kim was looking to up her game. She did just that with a fine routine that let us see her smile. 7-6-6 from the judges was a great improvement from her Dancing debut.

Boogie Night: Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess kicked off the night with a fine Jive to “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” by Bette Midler. The routine was dedicated to the Florida teacher with whom Nick credits with putting him on a proper path. Unfortunately, there were a few stumbles on the dancing path, as Nick had some serious shoe issues. Nevertheless, he powered through well enough to get a trio of 7s from the judges.
