Viola Davis Wins 2016 SAG Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series

Congratulations to Viola Davis on her 2016 SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series! This marks her second straight SAG Award for her role as Annalise Keating in How to Get Away with Murder. Davis also captured the 2015 Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.

In her acceptance speech, Davis described people's reactions to the character she portrays in How to Get Away with Murder. She told everyone, "There's a famous saying: 'I am not who you think I am. You are who you think I am.' I think about that because people are always saying, 'Wow, you know, Annalise is an anti-hero, don't you worry she's not likable? Don't you worry that she's not a mentor?' And I always think, Why do I have to be a hero? Why do you have to like me? And why do I have to be a mentor? My job as an actor is just to create a human being to the best of my ability. Flawed, messy, maybe not always likable, maybe not cute... it is my job and I do it to the best of my ability, and I get so much joy out of being an actor. I thank all my fellow actors on How to Get Away with Murder. It is such a fabulous young cast. It has been the joy, pleasure of my life. Thank you so much."
