Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Recap: Hydra's Goal Revealed in "Many Heads, One Tale"
Welcome to the Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. recap for “Many Heads, One Tale,” Season 3, Episode 8 (original airdate November 17, 2015), where Coulson sends Bobbi and Hunter to infiltrate the ATCU, and Grant Ward learns Hydra's ancient goal that they've kept secret for thousands of years.
Ward Fights for His Life
Ward makes it clear to Gideon Malick he's looking for the mysterious vault held by the Von Strucker family. Malick says it's not real, but Ward knows it is -- mostly because of the way Malick keeps denying it. Thing is, Malick doesn't want to share, and he sends his goons after Ward:
In case there was any doubt...yeah, Ward is no joke.
Fitz and Simmons: A Kiss and a Curse
As Fitz and Simmons research the Ram’s Head symbol S.H.I.E.L.D. found in the castle to see if there are ties to the portal to be discovered, Simmons snapped at Agent Leo Fitz while he was telling her his findings regarding Will and the planet beyond the portal. Fitz comes back to have it out with her:
Simmons is upset that Fitz is so willing to help, given their romantic entanglement. Fitz explains that he's sick to his stomach about the whole thing, but it's because they're cursed -- the universe wants to keep them apart. She says she's in love with Will, but she can't get the thought of Fitz "diving through a hole in the universe" for her. The two share a passionate kiss, but Fitz can't get the curse out of his head.
Is Price Working for Hydra?
After Bobbi and Hunter's sneaky infiltration of the ATCU reveals that the shadowy organization 1) is not holding Garner at their faciity as they believed, 2) is not curing Inhumans, and 3) is more than likely actually turning Inhumans, they relay this information to Coulson, who's giving Price a tour of S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ. Coulson gives ATCU director Rosalind Price the third degree while trying to get to the bottom of ATCU's role in the Inhuman outbreaks:
Things get personal as the two discuss their recent fling and subsequent mistrust. But when Coulson drops the bomb that ATCU is turning Inhumans rather than curing them, it's clear Rosalind wasn't aware. She says her longtime friend, industrialist Gideon Malick (Powers Boothe), is in charge of the science division. And the intel Price has that only high-level S.H.I.E.L.D. or Hydra personnel could have? That came from Malick as well.
Price's man Banks helps extract Bobbi and Hunter from the facility, but now ATCU's ties to Hydra have been exposed -- as well as their more nefarious plans involving Inhumans.
Hydra's Ancient Plans Revealed
After the getting the info from Malick's goons, Grant Ward made it to the Von Strucker vault -- and he finds Gideon Malick is already there. Knowing Ward could be a formidable ally, Malick lays out a short history of Hydra -- stretching back thousands of years -- and how its origin and history are intertwined with that of the monolith:
The powerful being that stalked Agent Simmons on the other planet has been known to Hydra for years, and the core purpose of the organization is to mobilize as an army to serve its needs.
So what comes next for Hydra's plan? Can S.H.I.E.L.D. possibly fend them off? Tell us your theories in the comments below! Tune in TUESDAY DEC 1 for Season 3, Episode 9, "Closure."
