Performance of the Week: Scarlett begins to crack under the pressure of having to suffer through Deacon’s diagnosis in silence, so Gunnar — who catches her crying — suggests they team up with Avery to play together once again. If you ask us, these three singing together is just what the doctor ordered!

Speaking of the Doctor…: Deacon passes up on the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial that may eliminate his tumor, preferring to wait for a donor instead. Meanwhile, the jam ssession with Avery and Gunnar cheers up Scarlett, who feels emboldened enough to ask out Deacon’s doctor.

The Devil You Know: Following Jeff’s dismissal from Edgehill, the media company that owns the label decides to dissolve it, leaving artists like Luke Wheeler and Will Lexington without representation. A newly unemployed Jeff sees this as his big opportunity to get back into the business. He approaches Luke about starting up a label -- with Jeff fronting the business side of things, of course. (SPOILER ALERT: Luke later has a change of heart, so Jeff gets fired. Again.) Luke wants Will on his new label, but the young Mr. Lexington isn’t sure what to do. He goes to Deacon for advice.

When One Door Closes, Another One Opens: After Edgehill dissolves, Rayna tries to pick up a few of their artists for Highway 65. She hears some of Layla’s new music and can’t deny that she has a unique voice that deserves to be heard. Despite the personal drama that surrounds her, Rayna wants Layla with Highway 65. Think she’ll still be excited about her new addition once she discovers that Jeff is Layla’s new manager? We'll see!
