The Bachelorette 2020 Premiere Recap: Who Did Clare Send Home?

New Bachelorette Clare Crawley has officially begun her journey to find love on "The Bachelorette," and we're going to recap what turned out to be a pretty wild night on the 2020 season premiere! Clare hasn't managed to find an everlasting connection during her time in Bachelor Nation, but now she's got 31 guys in the Bachelorette cast who are dying to date her, which is a great start. So who got a rose this week, and who went home on Night One? As you might imagine, you'll find approximately 10 billion spoilers below, so if you haven't yet watched the episode, you can stream "The Bachelorette" 2020 premiere here on ABC.com or in the ABC appOr just read on for this week's highlights!

Building the Bubble

First things first: How the heck are they filming "The Bachelorette" in a world where I can't even get a haircut, a situation which, frankly, is getting quite dire and also maybe even a little bit offensive to my coworkers on video chat? Here's how:

It really warms the heart to see those men all emerge as muscle-y butterflies from their La Quinta cocoons, jumping for joy, cannonballing in the pool, saying their polite hellos to the trees and the mountains. And Chris Harrison even made Clare's test results into a serious moment of drama. That's why he's the maestro, folks.

The Men Arrive

Look, we all know that this is the part where viewers watch the guys hop out of the limo, somewhat unfairly judge their physical appearances and the first goofy thing they say in this pretty stressful and uncomfortable situation, and then completely unfairly decide how we feel about them as human beings. Which is to say, this part is very subjective, and I don't want to take that away from you with my commentary and a couple clips. If you haven't done this part yet, watch the episode. I'll even link it for you. Here you go. You're welcome.

Now, that said, we must note that after Dale greeted her and went inside, Clare is visibly shaking. Is that good or bad?

"I definitely feel like I just met my husband." She says everything went dark around her when she met him. Chris Harrison says she's the first lead to say anything like that during the arrivals.

The Cocktail Party Begins...

Clare and Dale have a great chat, so the follow-up on their initial fireworks doesn't seem to be a let down for those two. Clare's dog, Honey, runs out and joins Clare and the guys as Clare's wingwoman, and obviously, we're not going to miss a chance to show you Honey doing her thing:

Everyone's having a good time, and Clare is all smiles. A couple guys even wonder if this cast full of slightly older-than-usual guys might result in slightly lower-than-usual amounts of drama.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Yeah, no.

...And the Drama Follows

This particular bit of drama began before the show even started! Tyler C. says that fellow bachelor Yosef was flirting with a friend of his via social media during quarantine, and he says it sounded like Yosef wasn't just flirting with that one woman—AKA, Tyler doesn't think Yosef is here for the Right Reasonstm. Tyler C. takes it right to Yosef to avoid spending Clare's time on drama. But instead of letting that get back to Clare secondhand, Yosef takes the initiative and grabs Clare first, who suggests they all sit down and get it all out in the open:

Tyler C. ends up on the defensive there. Will that hurt him when it's rose time?

The First Impression Rose

Blake Moynes was feeling pretty good about his chances for the rose after an emotional talk with Clare, and Eazy had a great chat with her as well—but so did Zach J. and a few other guys. There's lots of competition, and in any normal situation, lots of worthy recipients. But lest we forget, Dale had Clare saying the word "husband" like four seconds after he got out of the limo. Pretty tough to beat that, as far as first impressions go:

The Rose Ceremony: Who Went Home on Night One of "The Bachelorette"

Then it was time for Clare to really start her journey by eliminating the first group of guys with whom she doesn't see a future. She had 23 roses, which means 8 guys are going home.

The final rose came down to Tyler C. and Yosef—earlier, Tyler said he had dirt on Yosef, while Yosef denied the allegations. Clare went with Yosef, sending Tyler C. home, along with AJ, Chris, Jeremy, Jordan M., Mike, Page, and Robby.

So while the journey is over for those 8 unlucky gentlemen, it's just getting started for the rest of us. And here's your first look at what may be (Chris Harrison voice) the most dramatic season of "The Bachelorette" ever. Like, seriously:
