Entertaining with Style: Clinton's Fall Crafts

Do you want to bring the harvest feeling into your home?  Clinton’s got some great tips for you.  Simply follow his formula and add color, pattern, texture and shine.

Get started by creating an inspiration board by using outdoor photos, swatches and some of your favorite things.

Use harvest colors inside your home.  Squash, pumpkins and other autumn foods are great for color inspiration, but think beyond the colors of changing leaves – think gold, rust, orange, red and green.  Just be sure to avoid creating a monochromatic color scheme.  Instead add a pop of color by adding blues and greens.

A simple color solution is to create a space in your home with a little bit of drama.   He designed a mantel with lots of color by putting an orange vase next to it for a dramatic, harvest look.  Or you could also dress up an end table with a bright colored lamp.  Lamps are a great way to bring fall colors into your home.

Solids are good, but too much can make your space feel drab.  Use plaids, stripes, ginghams to make your space more interesting.  Clinton likes to use burlap to create an organic pattern.  Or you can create your own patterns with fruit in complimentary colors, as well as decorative balls created with fall elements.

Bring outdoor texture inside by weaving fall elements such as acorns, pine cones, leaves and corn husks into your décor.  By filling a fruit bowl with organic elements that represent autumn, you’ll create a cozy, yet modern piece for your table.

Autumn decorating is all about muted earth tones, but that can get pretty boring if you don’t work in a little glamour. To achieve this contrast polished items like copper pans with unfinished wood to create a chic and balanced autumnal moment.  When setting your table start with a natural feeling base, like this plaid tablecloth as you start building your table, add more shine.
