Marcel Spears will next be seen in the upcoming ABC comedy "The Mayor," set to debut this fall. On stage, Marcel is currently starring in the Rachel Bonds' play "At the Old Place" at La Jolla Playhouse. Previously, Spears starred in "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" at the Old Globe Theater with Justin Long and Donald Faison. His other theater credits include Ruben Santiago-Hudson's production of "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," at Two River Theater in New Jersey and the Guthrie Theater's production of Alice Childress' play "Trouble in Mind."
On the New York Stage, Spears starred in the title role of the Classic Stage Company's Young Company production of Shakespeare's "Othello" and was seen in the critically acclaimed production of "Mother Courage" also at Classic Stage Company. In 2015, Spears starred opposite Deidre O'Connell in the critically acclaimed Page 73 production of "Judy," by Max Posner, under the direction of Ken Rus Schmoll. Marcel made his Classic Stage Company debut in the Young Company's 2015 production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," directed by Tyne Rafaeli, playing the role of Nick Bottom, and was awarded the Rosemarie Tichler Fund Grant for his performance. Other NY credits include "Light" directed by Brian Kulick, "The Threepenny Opera," "The Emperor Jones" and "The Maids," at Columbia University/Columbia Stages.
Marcel is a New Orleans native and holds an MFA in acting from Columbia University.
