Challenge: Bring the Heat

Dish: Eric's Mulligatawny and Braised Beef with Spiced Yogurt 


1 ea onion, small dice
4 ea garlic, chopped
1 tbsp ginger, grated
4 ea Serranos, chopped and deseeded
½ ea habanero, chopped and deseeded
2 ea jalapeno, chopped and deseeded
2 cups red lentils
1 qt chicken stock
½ bunch cilantro
¼ cup coconut milk
1 tbsp curry
1 tsp cayenne
1 tsp cumin
3 tbsp lime juice

3 tbsp yogurt
1 ea lime juice
1 tbsp harissa

1 lb beef stew meat
4 tbsp sambal
1 qt beef stock


In a pressure cooker, heat up with oil. Rub the beef with the sambal and start to sear. Add the stock and cook for 40 minutes.

In a medium pot with a little oil, put the peppers, onions, garlic, spices and ginger. Start to sweat. After 5 minutes add the stock and lentils. Cook for about 20 minutes. When the lentils expand, put in a blender. Blend with the cilantro.

For the yogurt, in a mixing bowl combine all the ingredients.

To assemble, chop the beef and mix in the mulligatawny. Place on the spoon and drizzle the yogurt on top.
