Based on the graphic novel series, Stumptown follows Dex Parios (Cobie Smulders)–a strong, assertive and sharp-witted veteran with a complicated love life, gambling debt and a brother to take care of in Portland, Oregon aka Stumptown. Her military intelligence skills make her a great PI, but her unapologetic style puts her in the firing line of hardcore criminals and not quite in alliance with the police.

The series also stars Jake Johnson as Grey McConnell, Dex's best friend and an ex-con with a bar called "Bad Alibi." Dex also crosses paths with Detective Miles Hoffman (Michael Ealy), and let's just say things between them are a little complicated. She frequently clashes with Hoffman's boss, Lieutenant Cosgrove (Camryn Manheim). Dex is also looking out for her little brother, Ansel (Cole Sibus) and can depend on Tookie (Adrian Martinez) to help get her out of a jam. And then there's Sue Lynn Blackbird (Tantoo Cardinal), a casino owner with a connection to Dex beyond just the gambling debts she's racked up. All of them are in the mix as Dex pursues becoming a PI, no matter who she crosses along the way.
