Mistresses Season 3 Premiere Recap: Jennifer Esposito Makes Debut as Calista Raines

The Season 3 premiere of Mistresseswhich originally aired June 18, 2015, was full of so many twists and turns that one hour just wasn’t enough. What happened to Joss, Harry, Karen, April and the rest of the Mistresses gang during the two-hour season premiere? Where is Savi? Who exactly is Calista Raines (played by Mistresses newcomer Jennifer Esposito)? Keep reading to find out all of the scandalous details!

We pick up immediately where last season’s cliffhanger left off. Joss’s wedding day make-out session on the beach with Harry is interrupted by the news that the grandmother of the guy she’s supposed to marry has had a stroke. She heads off to the hospital with Scott leaving Harry alone back on the sand. Joss’s prospective in-laws blame her for Grandma June’s fate. After all, she had everyone waiting out in the hot sun.

No one has heard from Savi. The fear is that she’s missing. Joss doesn’t believe it. She sends a text. Savi responds with a message that reads: “You are no longer my sister.” Joss fesses up to Karen and April that she was kissing Harry when she was supposed to be walking down the aisle. Savi must have seen them. Dom says she quit her job. Things get even more complicated for Joss and Harry when word comes in that Grandma June has died.

Joss finally blurts out that she was with Harry to Scott, who promptly asks her to move out of his house. Joss later learns that Savi was still in love with Harry. She goes on a desperate search for her sister and actually tracks down her car. Zack happens to be driving it. Savi gave it to him after he dropped her at the airport.

An intoxicated Scott shows up to beat up Harry, who doesn’t fight back. Harry later tells Joss that he’s been on the other side of this situation. Sometimes these things have to happen. Joss is very upset. She loves Harry. She wants to be with him, but now isn’t the right time. Joss later meets with Karen and April. They wonder if Savi will ever return.

April tries to comfort Lucy, who is still reeling from the news that her dad was alive before truly being dead as a result of his criminal activities. The only course of action is to come clean. So April does just that. It doesn’t go well. Lucy can’t forgive her mother for lying. She asks to go live with her grandmother. That’s not going to happen.

April invites Miranda over so Lucy can meet her half-brother, Scotty. Even with Miranda’s over-sharing brother, Marc, in the mix, the intro of young siblings turns out to be nice. Miranda reveals that she got a job on a cruise ship. Marc will be staying in town with Scotty. Lucy is thrilled about this. April…not so much.

Karen's test results reveal that she is HIV-negative. The physician, Dr. Alec Adams, asks to see her anyway. It seems she has a very rare blood type. Dr. Adams broke rules to learn this. He needs her help to save his sick wife. Karen wonders if this is all part of God’s plan. She decides to meet with the good doctor’s wife. The two women have an open, honest chat which has Karen believing fate has brought them together.

Calista Raines shows up at a hotel. She’s looking for her husband. She knows he’s there with another woman. She wants the young woman at the check-in desk to help her out. Several hundred dollar bills are set upon the counter. This is some incentive for the hotel worker to do help her catch her slimy, no good, cheating husband in the act.

On the second part of the season premiere, a week has passed. Joss is still feeling the aftershocks of Savi’s harsh departure. She has a run-in with a woman who steals her parking space. It happens to be Calista Raines, who offers up a hundred bucks to forget about the whole thing. Then she whips out a camera for reasons that are unclear. As for Joss, she slides a travel agent her recently-acquired C-note to get some info on Savi. It’s not money well spent.

Joss exits the travel agency to discover that her car has been towed. She freaks out on the woman who stole her space. Calista orders Joss into her car so she doesn’t ruin a stakeout she’s on for her lying, cheating husband. She then offers a ride to the tow yard. During the journey, Joss realizes she’s talking to one of her all-time favorite fashion designers. The two ladies bond over their recent family woes.

April and Karen each receive a postcard from Savi. The message is simple. She’s alive and living in Italy. Neither of them are to tell Joss, who finds out anyway. Later, Calista enlists Joss’s help in catching her husband in the act of cheating. She needs photographic proof of an affair so she can divorce and still keep her fortune. Things are going well until Joss gets a false alarm call from Italy. She misses the photo op.

Calista understands why Joss failed in her mission. She convinces her that she can go on without Savi. This chat persuades Joss to delete a lengthy email she was planning to send her sister asking for forgiveness. Moments later, she gets a call from Harry. He thanks her for all that she’s done for him in the past. The two of them really miss each other.

April finds herself trying to get slacker Marc on the right track. She offers to buy him new bed sheets. Too bad Marc is more interested in picking up a worker in her store. He’s not very appreciative of April’s help or her lectures. The two of them have a falling out. April later offers to help Marc out with Scotty. She proposes they all live together for a while. Lucy is thrilled, but is still being cold toward her mom.

Karen’s blood is scheduled to go into Vivian Adams for stem cell procedure. She pays a visit to her come treatment day. The two of them have a candid discussion. It helps Karen realize a fear she has about being dropped by her group of friends now that Savi is out of the picture. After all, she was the glue. April assures Karen that she’s her friend forever. She and Joss surprise her by joining her at a church service because that’s what friends do.

Harry meets Ellis Boone, Greta’s total tool of a silent partner in Wunderbar. The guy fires most of the staff as he prefers the workers be somewhat hotter than the old crew. Ellis lets Harry know that he’s now majority owner in Wunderbar. In other words, he’s the boss. When a party of VIPs arrives at the restaurant, Harry makes it known that the boss can’t survive without the chef…or his old staff. A short time later, Harry meets Calista Raines. He doesn’t know her, but she’s certainly heard a lot about him.
