How the Dunphys Checked into Motel Hell

When the Dunphy house gets treated for mold, the entire family has to relocate to a dumpy motel. In Season 6, Episode 4 of Modern Family, "Marco Polo," the family ends up sharing a cramped room and things soon spiral into a disastrous stay.

Claire Sneaks Off and Gets Her Own Room
Fed up with staying in a tiny motel room, Claire (Julie Bowen) sneaks off and gets her own separate room. When Phil (Ty Burrell) finds out, he feels betrayed and tries to break the news to the kids, but they're all excited at the prospect of staying somewhere else.

Phil Plays Marco Polo with the Nigerians
Alex (Ariel Winter) realizes that the family never needed to be staying together in a tiny motel room when there were plenty of vacancies available, but Phil (Ty Burrell) just wanted the family to spend some time together. Dejected, Phil decides to have some fun in the motel pool by playing Marco Polo with the Nigerians from the neighboring room.
