Bachelorette Contestants Clint and JJ Get Bromantic
Ostensibly, the contestants on The Bachelorette this season are there to fall in love with Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe -- pursuing that goal means you're there for The Right Reasons. But for two conestants -- Clint and JJ -- it seems that spending time with each other is even more important than winning Kaitlyn's heart.
Clint got the first 1-on-1 date of the season, and JJ received a group date rose after the comedy date (even though Amy Schumer called him a turd). Their confidence was pretty high, and JJ already started asserting himself and making enemies:
Similarly, on the sumo wrestling group date, Clint felt so confident of his relationship with Kaitlyn that he didn't try to grab her for 1-on-1 time, instead opting to let her come to him (even as JJ counseled him not to play it so cool). Kaitlyn didn't come to him, but noted his apathy, and not in a good way.
It's highly likely that after those incidents, JJ lost most of his friends in the house, and Clint felt his connection with Kaitlyn slipping. As a result, those two started to bond over their loyalty to each other and the fact that the other guys in the house were getting along without the two of them. Clint and JJ seemed to only need each other, to the point where you might call this a full-blown bromance:
Between their exclusive friendship and their growing sense that they were becoming outcasts in the house, by Week 3, these two had so much confidence that they believed two things quite strongly: 1) They would be the two final men left on the show, and 2) they would do so even while playing the villains on the show. Because really, they ask each other, can you tell the difference between a hero and a villain? Here's a deleted scene where they discuss that concept:
The tricky part about this dance they're doing, is that there are a bunch of guys left in the house who don't really like either of them and feel that they're ruining the dynamic in the house. That sort of thing eventually gets back to Kaitlyn, much to Clint and JJ's dismay:
Joshua actually goes so far as to call Clint and JJ "two-faced" at the cocktail party before the Week 3 Rose Ceremony. Kaitlyn reveals that he's not the first person to call those two guys out. And between that and Clint being a little too cool for school with her on the sumo date, Kaitlyn was ready to take action:
So how will that play out? Stay tuned for Week 4. Watch The Bachelorette, Mondays 8|7c on ABC.
