Actor Biography
Tyler Christopher returned to the role of the noble, sensitive and complex Nikolas Cassadine in 2012, a role he originated in the summer of 1996 and played throughout 1996-1999 and 2003-2011. He was nominated for a Daytime Emmy ® in 1999, 2005 and again in 2006 for his portrayal of Nikolas.
In addition to “General Hospital,” Tyler has appeared in several prime time shows including “The Lying Game,” and the Steven Spielberg-produced mini-series “Into the West.” When Tyler left “General Hospital” in 1999 to pursue other projects, he quickly landed a recurring role on the popular primetime series “Charmed” and then a contract role on “The Pretender.” Guest starring roles include “Crossing Jordan,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “Jag,” “Family Law,” “Boomtown,” “The Twilight Zone,” “Felicity” and “Angel,” and “Celebrity Wife Swap,” among others.
On the big screen, Tyler can be seen in the film “Beyond the Lights,” and has also starred and co-starred in a few independent feature films, including “Cat Fish in Black Bean Sauce,” “Out of the Black” and “Face the Music.” Additionally, Tyler is an active member of the theater community, and is one of the founding members of the 68 Theatre Company.
Tyler has been recognized by his native community, receiving awards for Outstanding Performer in a Television Series in 1997 and 1998 from the First Americans in the Arts. He was also nominated in 2004 for a NAACP Image Award.
Born and raised in America’s heartland, Tyler Christopher grew up in Delaware, Ohio, the youngest of four children. Following graduation from high school, he attended Ohio Wesleyan University for two years before heading to California in hopes of pursuing an acting career. Although his initial effort proved to be a false start, he returned to Hollywood in 1995 and set his sights in earnest, doing the requisite rounds of auditions. His hard work and perseverance paid off, as he landed the part of Laura Spencer’s son on ABC’s longest-running drama.
Tyler is married, has one son and currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
