Watch 'Independence Day' Thursday, July 2 on ABC

Some movies are worth another watch. Call them comfort films. The critics can zip it when it comes to these gems. Entertaining storylines, memorable moments and other intangibles are all that matter. Simply put, these movies are supremely rewatchable. Thankfully, the streaming world allows us to revisit some of our all-time favorite flicks whenever we want. One movie that is worth another watch, especially if you're into alien invasions and worldwide fireworks, is "Independence Day" airing Thursday, July 2 on ABC 8/7c & streaming right now on Hulu and Disney+. Get the scoop on why this movie is so rewatchable below.

"Independence Day" is a super fun sci-fi adventure where massive alien spaceships suddenly appear in the skies above the world's biggest cities. Just another reason for locals to hate tourists. Do these visitors come in peace? Nah. The aliens unleash a series of devastating attacks, blowing up roof parties, taxicabs and the White House. Chaos ensues. Cities crumble. All hope is lost. But wait...

David Levinson, a bike-riding, recycling-obsessed computer expert, realized an alien signal was actually a countdown to a massive global attack. His wisdom is embraced by U.S. President Thomas Whitmore, who wants to fight back. Also gearing up for a big alien showdown is Captain Steven Hiller, a military fighter pilot who ditches his July 4th vacation to fight for humanity, and to celebrate with a good cigar from Judd Hirsch.

When it comes time to play offense, David uses his computer skills to mess up the aliens' defense shields. Planet Earth has a fighting chance. President Whitmore rallies the troops. He's the Knute Rockne of Commander-in-Chiefs. Whitmore declares, "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight!" You'll be springing off the sofa cheering just like all those ragtag underdog pilots at Area 51. Seriously, it may be the best presidential movie speech given at a highly classified, super-restricted military base EVER!

Everything comes down to an epic battle on the 4th of July. If you love big, loud, patriotic blockbusters with a lot of fireworks, "Independence Day" is a classic disaster flick worth watching again even if its only July 2nd.
