This remarkable feat helped National Geographic set its own record, earning the most nominations ever for the brand with 46 nods. "Trafficked: Underworlds with Mariana van Zeller" features award-winning journalist Mariana van Zeller exploring the inner workings of the most dangerous black markets on the planet. In each episode, she investigates a different underworld — from the trade in body parts and hired assassins to sextortion and the smuggling of brides — to meet the players, learn the business, and better understand the world's multitrillion-dollar shadow economy.

The News & Documentary Emmy® Awards honor programming content from more than 2,300 submissions that originally premiered in the calendar-year 2024, judged by a pool of over 1,000 peer professionals from across the television and streaming/digital media industry. Entries must have been originally broadcast nationally or made available via streaming platform between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2024. Awards will be presented on June 25 and 26.
