The View Teams Up with Homes for our Troops and Home Depot to Honor Veteran Timothy Birckhead

In celebration of Veterans Day The View welcomes a naval officer whose unbreakable spirit gives us all a reason to celebrate. Timothy Birckhead served in the United States military but soon learned he had hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsies. The disease quickly progressed impacting the mobility of his arms and legs. It is hard to live with disease as it impacts his ability to get around and do simple things around his brother's home. Timothy's sense of independence has also diminished.

Timothy and his mother Gloria, who left her job a teacher to become a primary care provider, visit Homes for our Troops to find out if they may be able to find home to fit their needs. However when they arrived in Boston they are surprised to learn the organization is going to provide them a new home specially designed to meet Timothy's needs.

Timothy and his family join The View co-hosts on set and discuss what this new home will mean to them. Timothy's daughter gets emotional as she praises her father's humor and ability to always being happy.  Kristi Galanek from Homes for our Troops tells Whoopi and Sara about the organization and how they build mortgage free homes for severely injured veterans. Their goal is to help in the vet's recovery and to set them up for success. This is a way they honor our country's veterans. The Birckhead family also receives some good news about their new home and more surprises from The View.  Home Depot has helped Homes for our Troops get construction underway on  their new home which will now be ready in less than a year. Every room in the home will also be fully furnished by The View.

Homes for Our Troops is privately funded, and therefore relies on the generosity of donors like you. To learn more about Homes for our Troops visit  www.hfotusa.org.
