DWTS 2020 Recap: Week 1 - Season Premiere

It was time to get back to the ballroom as "Dancing with the Stars" 2020 featured 15 new celebrities for its season premiere! New host Tyra Banks welcomed everyone back and introduced our three judges for the season: Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and returning pro-turned-judge, Derek Hough! Each celebrity made their DWTS 2020 debut along with their pro dancer partner, and we got to see their first reactions and rehearsals. There were definitely some stand-out performances—and some with a lot of room to improve—but no vote this week let everyone get comfortable in their new dancing shoes. But that doesn't mean the pressure won't be on next week, as the judges' scores from tonight will be combined with those from next week, as well as your live votes (ET|CT only), to determine who will be the first celebrity to go home. What were the results from the "Dancing with the Stars" 2020 season premiere? Keep scrolling for all the details and highlights!

AJ McLean

Backstreet Boys alum AJ McLean kicked things off with his partner, Cheryl Burke, with the first dance of the night: a jumping jive to "Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd.

SCORES: 6 (Carrie Ann) / 6 (Derek) / 6 (Bruno) – 18 TOTAL

Jeannie Mai

Host Jeannie Mai wanted to come out of the gate strong, so she made sure her pro dance partner Brandon Armstrong took her straight to the acrobatics for their season premiere salsa!
SCORES: 6 (Carrie Ann) / 6 (Derek) / 6 (Bruno) – 18 TOTAL

Jesse Metcalfe

The quickstep is a notoriously tricky dance, so actor Jesse Metcalfe and his partner, returning pro Sharna Burgess, had a tough debut. While the intensity got to be a little too much at times for Carrie Ann, the pair's chemistry got them some good first night scores.
SCORES: 6 (Carrie Ann) / 6 (Derek) / 6 (Bruno) – 18 TOTAL

Skai Jackson

It's hard to do better for a partner than a reigning champion, so young actress Skai Jackson had to be happy to be paired with Alan Bersten. She also has to be happy with getting 7s from all three judges with their debut performance!
SCORES: 7 (Carrie Ann) / 7 (Derek) / 7 (Bruno) – 21 TOTAL

SCORES: 7 (Carrie Ann) / 7 (Derek) / 6 (Bruno) – 20 TOTAL

Rapper Nelly got quite a surprise when his pro partner Daniella Karagach told him they were going to dance the salsa to his song "Ride Wit Me," but the two of them had some surprises of their own for the judges.
SCORES: 5 (Carrie Ann) / 5 (Derek) / 6 (Bruno) – 16 TOTAL
