DWTS Season 23 Premiere Results: Laurie Hernandez and James Hinchcliffe Tops, Ryan Lochte Interrupted!
SPOILERS AHEAD! The Dancing with the Stars cast hit the ballroom once again for the DWTS Fall 2016 Season 23 Premiere on a night that saw a brand new group of stars, some returning pro champs, an unexpected incident after Ryan Lochte's performance and, of course, some fine dancing. Laurie Hernandez and James Hinchcliffe tied for high score of the night while former Texas governor Rick Perry found himself at the bottom of the leaderboard. Laurie Hernandez and Valentin Chmerkovskiy did the Cha Cha to "American Girl" by Bonnie McKee. Streamers fell and the crowd went wild at the end of this energetic routine. Carrie Ann says she never saw Val so happy after an awesome dance. 8-8-7-8 from the judges. TOTAL: 31.
James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess did the Foxtrot to "Live Life" by Zayde Wolf. Len was impressed at how fluid James was for a guy who drives a car for a living. Julianne felt it was a smooth breath of fresh air. Bruno can't wait to see him do a Latin dance. Scores of 8-8-7-8.
LOW SCORE - RICK PERRY: 20
Rick Perry and Emma Slater did the Cha Cha to "God Blessed Texas" by Little Texas. Len felt the routine was a little pedestrian at times, but there was some Cha Cha Cha in there. Julianne knows Rick went "full out" while Bruno called out the ex-gov's timing issues. Scores of 5-5-5-5 from the judges. TOTAL: 20
