DWTS 2016 Recap: Jana Kramer and Laurie Hernandez Shine in Week 9!

Season 23 of Dancing with the Stars 2016 continued in Week 9's Showstoppers Night with guest judge Idina Menzel (the voice of Elsa in Frozen and the original Elphaba in Wicked) flipping the paddles as well as belting out a show-stopping performance of her own. Broadway made its way west for this fun night of fantastic routines done to some of the most memorable music to come down the Great White Way. There was also a team-up challenge round at the end of the evening to make things even more interesting as the Dancing with the Stars cast turned in another another incredible night of dancing fun. Which stars shined brightest as the quest for the coveted Mirrorball Trophy continued? Let's find out right now. Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko (Waltz): Gleb had to work through some injuries to perform a Waitress-inspired routine with partner Jana. Idina said that Jana broke her, in a good way. Julianne felt there was beautiful storytelling that came from the heart. Bruno felt it was like watching a movie. Carrie Ann was mesmerized. 10-10-10-10 from the judges for a perfect 40. Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy (Argentine Tango): It was a Cell Block beauty of a routine as Laurie and Val paid tribute to a classic memory from Chicago. Julianne thought this was the perfect dance for Laurie to show off her strengths. Bruno found Laurie guilty of killing that Tango in a routine that defied gravity. Marilu Henner and Derek Hough (Samba): Mark Ballas was back in the ballroom for some Jersey Boys vocals. As for the dancing, Idina thought Marilu did an amazing job. Julianne agreed that Marilu looked like she was having the time of her life out there. Bruno thought the routine was as bright as a mid-summer day. Calvin Johnson, Jr. and Lindsay Arnold (Waltz): Julianne loved that Calvin owned the dance that may have been one of his best. Bruno likened Calvin to a tiger who went in and out of tempo so well. Carrie Ann wants the team to work on connecting to the music more. James Hinchcliffe and Jenna Johnson (subbing for the injured Sharna Burgess) (Jazz): James went down the Yellow Brick Road for his The Wiz-friendly routine. Bruno believes James saw one misstep in an otherwise fine dance. Carrie Ann appreciated how he came back with a vengeance after that initial faux pas. Idina added that she would love to share a stage with him. After all, she has had some experience as a wicked witch there. 9-9-9-9 from the judges for a total of 36. Terra Jole and Sasha Farber (Charleston): Terra did a dance from Sweet Charity and sweet it was. Carrie Ann feels that Terra outperforms everyone in the competition. Idina loves the spirit and how Terra makes her feel. The Team Dance Challenge!

James & Calvin Team Dance (Paso):

The wild, wild west was in full swing Bruno was thoroughly entertained. Carrie Ann felt the sync was good and so was the musicality once they found each other. Idina felt they were just so sexy. Julianne said this dance was the reason why these two were the last man standing in the competition. 9-9-10-9 from the judges for a total of 37.

Marilu & Terra Team Dance (Jazz):

Another Jazz routine, but this time from a team that provided some fast-moving fun. Julianne felt it was a true showstopper. She loved the energy. Bruno felt it was like a New Year's party at the Great Gatsby's mansion. 9-9-9-9 from the judges for a total of 36.

Jana & Laurie Team Dance (Contemporary):

There was so much intensity in the truly raw, emotional routine. Idina was left speechless, but she did say it was a magical dance. Julianne thought it was amazing all around. Bruno felt these two little birds have truly reached new heights. Carrie Ann felt the team grew into something beyond. 10-10-10-10 for another perfect 40.
