The Bus Explosion
A relationship doesn't ultimately work out for Jackson and April the first go-around. In fact, they each start seeing new people. But Jackson's almost-death stirs something inside April. Eventually, he does just that. On the day of April's wedding to Matthew, Jackson stands up mid-ceremony and declares his love for the bride. The only person more surprised than Matthew and Stephanie? April.

After Jackson stops the wedding, April leaves Matthew at the altar and runs away with her ex. But... what now? Well, the lovebirds decide to elope! And soon after they get married, April discovers she’s expecting a baby.

Unfortunately, Jackson and April learn the devastating news that their unborn child has type two osteogenesis imperfecta, a fatal disorder. April is in complete shock. When she finally breaks down, Jackson is there beside her. She tearfully tells him they are having a son. Samuel Norbert Avery dies shortly after he is born.

The End?
After the death of their son, April decides to go with Owen to practice medicine in a combat zone. She’s gone for months. Since her return, she hasn’t been the same. And after the tunnel collapse in the season finale, it’s clear she wants to go back. Jackson is surprisingly supportive. But she can’t expect him to be here when she gets back... The past year has hurt him so much.
