The Bachelorette 2018 Recap: What Happened to David & Clay?

The Bachelorette 2018 Recap: What Happened to David & Clay?

Love hurts this week on The Bachelorette 2018, with Bachelorette Becca Kufrin seeing not one, but two of her bachelors go down with injuries, forcing one of them to leave the show! The week started strong with a group date that forced everyone to confront the whole Colton/Tia situation because Tia was right there. For her one-on-one date, Becca took Chris to the Capitol Records building to write love songs with love song superstar Richard Marx. Then the injuries started piling up, first at the house and then on the second group date. It all ended up with a heartbroken Becca having to say goodbye to a suitor she was just starting to really connect with! You can watch The Bachelorette season 14, episode 3 right here on ABC.com or in the ABC app, or read on for highlights and to find out who got hurt on The Bachelorette!

The Elephant in the Room

Becca took Tia aside to hear what she thinks is going on with Colton

We found out in The Bachelorette season 14, episode 2, that Colton had dated Becca's friend Tia before coming on the show. The relationship didn't go very far, but it left Becca wondering if he was really there for the right reasons. To find out, she had Tia and a bunch of her other Bachelor-alum friends get pampered by some guys, including Colton, on a group date. Tia backed up Colton's take on things, but the question still remains: was he seeing Tia hoping she would become the Bachelorette?

Becca seemed convinced that Colton deserved another shot, and then some, and awarded him the group date rose as a reward for him handling an awkward situation with aplomb.

David and Jordan Face Off!

There was no love lost when Jordan interrupted David's one-on-one time with Becca last week by showing up in his underwear, so when David heard Jordan talking about getting 4,000 dating app matches in 2017, he didn't hesitate to talk to Becca about it during their group date.

After Becca let Jordan know she'd heard about his online dating stats, Jordan tried to smooth things over with her. He was less interested in smoothing things over with David and some heated words were exchanged.

Jordan tries to smooth things over with Becca by comparing himself to a golden retriever.

Neither man walked away with the group date rose, though, so it's not clear yet who's coming out on top in this rivalry.

Emergency at the House!

Blood everywhere! An ambulance arrives. David is being rushed to the hospital! Blake found him lying in pool of his own blood!

So what happened? Chris Harrison showed up at Becca's door the next morning to explain there was an incident. It looks like David fell out of his bunk bed in the middle of the night and he was in intensive care. Becca called him and he sounded like he'll be okay, but it looks like he'll be out of the house for a little while. Jordan seems pretty okay with that.

Are You Ready For Some Football?

For the second group date, Clay, Leo, Christon, Ryan, John, Garrett, Mike, Lincoln, Connor, and Blake participated in the first annual Becca Bowl. With commentary by Chris Harrison and retired football star Keyshawn Johnson, it was a rough and tumble game. The clear favorite had to be pro football player Clay, but let's just say the rest of his Blue Team left a little to be desired. The White Team got out to an early lead, but that was before Clay decided to go full-on beast mode and carry his team to a respectable tie with the final play of the game!

Unfortunately, during his touchdown-scoring run, Clay was injured and his wrist was potentially broken! He had to go to the emergency room to have it looked at, but this tough-guy made it back for the end of the date because he didn't want to miss a second with Becca. His toughness and grace earned him the second group date rose.

Saying Goodbye

The next day, before the Rose Ceremony, Clay had some bad news from the doctors. His wrist was broken, and if he wanted to heal up properly in order to keep playing professional football, he needed to go have surgery right away. He was torn between getting surgery so he could keep providing for his family with his football career, and staying with Becca, whom he was really starting to have feelings for.

Ultimately, Clay had to do what was best for his family and leave to get surgery. It was a heartbreaking decision for both him and Becca, and it left us all wondering what might have been if he'd been able to stay.

Next week, David returns to the house, but in what condition? And who's not being honest with Becca now? Don't miss The Bachelorette MONDAYS 8|7c on ABC!
