Meet the woman bringing more diversity to welding
Patrice Frazier is what she calls a ‘welding advocate’. She created her company WeldJointed to recruit more diversity in the welding industry. She was drawn to the career when she read the newspaper and learned that there was expected to be a shortage of welders and wanted to get involved. One of the first things that struck her about the industry was the lack of diversity. Patrice says the average welders are 55-year-old white men. Women make up less than 6 percent of the workforce. Her goal with WeldJointed is to change the face of welding. She travels to schools and holds classes to get people interesting in welding and drawn in more women and people of color.
