How bikes help build community!
West Town Bikes began more than 15 years ago in a predominantly Puerto Rican neighborhood in Chicago, known as Humboldt Park. Alex Wilson started small, mainly as an after-school program where kids could drop-in to learn about bikes and bike maintenance then, eventually –earn- a bike, after 16 after-school sessions. West Town Bikes has grown over the years and before the pandemic, served one-thousand kids a year! West Town Bikes’ youth programs build self-reliance, confidence, even financial independence.
