Actor Biography
Angela Gibbs has a diverse history of accomplishments in the entertainment industry as actor, director, producer and coach.
Some of her current acting credits include television shows: "This Is Us," "Hacks," "Finding Happy," "S.W.A.T." and "On My Block"; and films: "Love Jacked," "Straight Outta Compton" and "Think Like A Man." She was also a series regular on Aaron McGruder's "Black Jesus."
An acting coach, Gibbs supported Michael Keaton on the film "Birdman" then rejoined with director, Alejandro Inarritu, coaching on "The Revenant," both of which won Oscars®. She coached Demetrius Shipp for the role of Tupac in "All Eyes On Me" and Richie Merritt in "White Boy Rick." Gibbs worked with Riley Keough and Gina Gemelle on their directorial debut film, "War Pony," which won the Camera d'Or award at Cannes. Her roster of clients include Janelle Monae and Ismael Cruz Cordova.
Gibbs produced the play "227" which became the NBC sitcom hit and the play "Checkmates" that debuted on Broadway with Denzel Washington – both won NAACP IMAGE Awards.
Gibbs' short film, "Ties That Bind," aired on BET Best Shorts. It also won HBO's Best Short Competition at Martha's Vineyard Film Festival, the Pan African Film Festival and the Juneteenth Festival in Texas.
She directed a Ghanaian women's empowerment documentary, "Dare To Struggle, Dare To Win," and the film was chosen as the Opening Night event at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Gibbs attended NYU's Film Boot Camp, before becoming a directing fellow at the American Film Institute, where she won the Mary Pickford scholarship. While there, she cast a student film "Last Breeze of Summer," which was nominated for an Academy Award®.
Gibbs worked at Turner Network in Atlanta as senior writer of the Trumpet Awards its first 10 years. While in the ATL, she taught drama at Spelman College.
