Dancing with the Stars Season 21 Premiere Recap: Bindi Irwin & Nick Carter Earn Top Scores!
Welcome to the official recap for the Dancing with the Stars Season 21 Premiere (original airdate September 14, 2015). The biggest dance party on the planet returned with an all-new star-studded cast. The episode kicked off with the biggest number in DWTS history shot on famed Hollywood Boulevard. How did the stars do in their Dancing debut? Check out the Glitter Report for the highlights of the night!
Crocodile Rockin’ It: Bindi Irwin & Derek Hough fittingly did the Jive to “Crocodile Rock” by Elton John. The crowd went wild and with good reason. Bindi was utterly charming and entertaining with a high-energy routine that, well, totally crocodile rocked! Her three 8s from the judges were enough to reel in a tie for top score of the night.
Ending on a High Note: Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess wrapped up the night of debut dances with a Cha Cha to “I Don’t Like It, I Love It” by Flo Rida featuring Robin Thicke. The team ended the evening on a high note with a fine routine that scored three 8s from the judges and a tie for top score of the night. Check it out!
A Cosmos of Riddles: Gary Busey & Anna Trebunskaya gave us our third Cha Cha of the evening to “Dancing in the Street” by David Bowie & Mick Jagger. The man, by his own admission, “danced in a cosmos of riddles.” Not sure what that means, but it sure was entertaining. The judges gave him three 5s for his routine, but one gets the sense Gary didn’t mind that at all.
Holding On For a Hero: Alek Skarlatos & Lindsay Arnold put their best feet forward with a Foxtrot to “Ten Feet Tall” by Afrojack featuring Wrabel. This American hero didn’t have a lot of dance experience before taking on this new challenge. Okay, he didn’t have any! That didn’t seem to matter. Alek wowed the crowd and Carrie Ann as well. She gave him an 8 to go with a pair of 7s from the other judges.
The Quotes Are In:
Julianne (to Victor after his Salsa): “I thought that there might have been a little bit more of a stiff situation happening down there.”
Bruno (to Hayes after his Cha Cha): “You are definitely worth more than six seconds.”
Paula (after her Quickstep): "I had a white underwear when I started, but it probably ain’t white no more."
Bruno (to Carlos after his Jive): “I want to see the devil inside you!”
Bruno (to Kim after her Salsa): “My darling, this dance could be grounds for divorce.”
Gary (after his Cha Cha): “I danced in a cosmos of riddles.”
Gary (to Tom Bergeron): "When I'm talking to you, your left eye is spinning. That's really neat!"
Tom (to Alek after his Foxtrot): “All of us, when we heard the story of what you guys did on that train... you represented the best of what we all hope we could be, and thank you for that.”
I Now Pronounce You Husband…: Carlos PenaVega & Witney Carson geared up for some Jive time to “I Got You (I Feel Good)” by James Brown. The first member of a married pair of stars did a high-energy dance with some truly devilish moves. It was enough to get a pair of eights from the lady judges to go with Bruno’s 7.
...And Wife: Alexa PenaVega & Mark Ballas gave us our second straight Jive. Their dance was done to “Whistle (While You Work It)” by Katy Tiz. Alexa followed her hubby’s fine routine with an equally-entertaining offering. She couldn’t quite catch him in the score department though with a 7-7-8.
Opening night ended with Bindi and Nick atop the leaderboard, but just like all the stars of the night, they need your votes to keep them bounding through the ballroom each and every week. All teams are back in action for Week 2 of Dancing with the Stars MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 8|9 and watch as the 2-Night Season Premiere continues TONIGHT 9|8c!
