Dancing with the Stars Recap: The Second Elimination Is In!

Dancing with the Stars Recap: The Second Elimination Is In!

Welcome to the official recap for the Season 21 Week 2 Hometown Glory Part 2 episode of Dancing with the Stars (original airdate September 22, 2015). After the elimination of Chaka Khan during Part 1, we had to bid adieu to another star as Victor Espinoza exited the ballroom. Elimination time is never easy, but it can’t take away from the top-notch dances turned in along the way. Check out a recap of the night’s most memorable routines in the Glitter Report!

Shirtless in New York: Tamar Braxton & Valentin Chmerkovskiy danced the Charleston to “Living in New York City” by Robin Thicke. Even though his folks came from the Ukraine, Val considers the Big Apple his home. The teammates went back and forth as to how to crank out the routine and Val’s shirtless start. Their fun, uplifting routine earned the top score of the night.

A Partner’s Promise: Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess did a Foxtrot to “Coming Home, Pt. II” by Skylar Grey. There are a lot of things going on back home with Sharna’s family. Nick knew this. He promised his partner that they weren’t going home this week. Then he went out and did a dance that may have kept them safe for the following week as well.

Making a Commitment: Andy Grammer & Allison Holker did a Contemporary routine to “Heaven Is a Place on Earth” by Katie Thompson. The team slowed things down, but turned up the passion to deliver a beautiful routine. Carrie Ann said she felt Andy’s “commitment” to the dance. It was enough to earn him scores of 8-8-7.

Mom’s Signature Move: Alexa PenaVega & Mark Ballas did a Rumba to “Somewhere in Time” by John Barry and Roger Williams. During rehearsals, Mark revealed that they were going to do his mom’s signature dance move. Alexa knew her partner wanted to make this dance special. Well, special it was, even though the judges had some critical things to say. The team still ended with scores of 7-7-8.

The Say Hayes, Kid: Hayes Grier & Emma Slater kicked off the evening with a Quickstep to “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” by Jet. It’s never easy to be first out of the gate, but this team did all right as their scores of 8-7-8 indicate.

The Lift Police: Bindi Irwin & Derek Hough did their first Waltz to “Only a Man” by Jonny Lang. Derek grew up in Utah and feels like he left the boy he was behind when he moved away. All grown up and ready to dance, he and Bindi turned in a lovely, flowing routine that held the crowd spellbound. Carrie Ann was a little disappointed that she had to put her “lift police” badge on.

Part 2 of the 2-Night Hometown Glory event ended with Tamar and Val atop the leaderboard and Victor Espinoza heading home from the ballroom. All remaining teams are back in action for Dancing with the Stars MONDAY 8|7c!
