Dancing with the Stars Recap: Bindi Irwin Does a Spicy Salsa in the Semi-Finals!

Welcome to the official Dancing with the Stars recap for Season 21, Week 10 “Semifinals” episode (original airdate November 16, 2015). In addition to their first routine, the stars performed a trio dance as well as the second Dance-Off of the season. After Tamar Braxton’s withdrawal from the competition due to health concerns, let’s see how the remaining teams did in The Glitter Report!

Trio Dance #1: Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough chose Mark Ballas to be in their trio as the team did a Jazz routine to “Resolve” by Nathan Lanier. The judges and the audience were blown away by what Carrie Ann described as a professional contemporary routine. From Bindi’s opening and closing surrounding a hanging light bulb and everything in between, the dance was truly mesmerizing and worthy of the three 10s awarded.

Trio Dance #2: Emma Slater joined Alek Skarlatos & Lindsay Arnold for an Argentine Tango to “Ex’s and Oh’s” by Noah Guthrie. The sexy, sure-footed routine was executed with dynamic power but lost a little steam toward the end according to some of the judges. Three 9s came from the judges for this one.

Trio Dance #3: Karina Smirnoff the Charleston with Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson to “Booty Swing” by Parlov Stelar. Not one member of the threesome had ever performed the Charleston in the ballroom. The fun routine was a swinging good time with the judges feeling like Carlos stole the show from the ladies. The judges gave this terrific trio scores of 9-10-10.

Trio Dance #4: Peta Murgatroyd returned to the ballroom this season to dance with Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess to “No Doubt About It” by the Empire Cast featuring Jussie Smollett + Pitbull. Julianne said that all the “Nick” they have seen since Week 1 was in this particular dance. Bruno and Carrie Ann agreed that this was another fine comeback dance in a truly solid dance that earned a trio of 10s.

Patriotic Perfection: Alek & Lindsay did a Waltz to “America the Beautiful” performed by Ray Chew Live. When the dancing was done, Alek made mention of the recent tragedy in Paris, as he was part of an action that thwarted an attack not so long ago. As for the dance, the judges were truly impressed with Carrie Ann saying it was his best dance ever. Guess that’s why the team got the only perfect score of the individual round. See why!

Raining Happiness: Bindi & Derek did a Salsa to “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile” by Sia. Everyone felt that the confetti that came streaming down at the end of the dance signified that it was raining happiness. It was a fun dance for sure, but a few of the judges were hoping for a little more edge in a dance like the Salsa. The team ended up with three 9s from the judges.

The Semifinals ended with Bindi & Derek and Carlos & Witney tied atop the leaderboard and nobody exiting the ballroom due to Tamar’s early withdrawal. All remaining teams are back in action for Dancing with the Stars Season Finale action MONDAY 8|7c and TUESDAY NOVEMBER 24 9|8c to see who will take home the coveted Mirrorball Trophy!
