Actor Biography

Freda Foh Shen was most recently cast in ABC's "The Company You Keep," opposite Milo Ventimiglia and Catherine Haena Kim. Her latest recurring role was on the FOX series "9-1-1" with Kenneth Choi, recently airing its sixth season. Shen also recurred as Lucy Liu's mother on the long-running hit series "Elementary," as well as recurring on "Andi Mack," "Gideon's Crossing" and "ER." She has guested on numerous series, most recently "Magnum P.I.," "The Fix" and "Grimm."

Foh Shen's TV movies most recently include co-starring with Britt Robertson in Brannon Braga's "Books of Blood" on Hulu. She also co-starred with Robbie Coltrane in "Cracker: White Ghost" and with Keith David in LeVar Burton's "The Tiger Woods Story."

On the film side, Foh Shen played Tom Wilkinson's henchwoman Kai in Gore Verbinksi's "The Lone Ranger" and has become a cult figure for her portrayal of the Chinese Food Lady in "Dude, Where's My Car?" Her voice portrays Mulan's mother in all the "Mulan" films, in addition to other animation projects.

Foh Shen began her career on Broadway in "Pacific Overtures" as the Shogun's wife for Stephen Sondheim and Hal Prince. She has received several theater honors, most notably an Obie for ensemble performance as Lady Nijo in "Top Girls" at the Public Theatre in NYC. Shen continued playing the boards on Broadway in New York City and in numerous regional theaters across the nation, including in L.A.'s East West Players production of "Sweeney Todd," directed by Tim Dang. As an outstanding Mrs. Lovett, she received multiple award nominations, a Drama-Logue Award and wide acclaim.
