Modern Family Recap: Dylan Moves in, Alex Suffers Heartbreak
Welcome to the Modern Family Recap of Season 7 Episode 3 "The Closet Case". In the episode, Phil caves into Dylan's request to move into the Dunphy house with Haley. He becomes the cool parent by helping convince Claire to allow Dylan to move in. After a short period of having Dylan as an extra roommate and seeing how Haley and Dylan can't keep their hands off each other, Phil decides enough is enough and tries to convince Claire to kick Dylan out. Claire can see right through Phil's plan to remain the cool parent. Jay and Mitchell try to get even with Jay's rival, Earl, after he uses Mitchell to pull a prank on Jay. After seeing one of Alex's friends at college during a video call, Luke decides to visit Alex at school with Manny.

Claire is Frigid
Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire (Julie Bowen) are both uncomfortable with Dylan living in the Dunphy household. After Phil calls Dylan and Haley (Sarah Hyland) over to the living room to discuss Dylan's living situation, Claire realizes that Phil wants her to be the bad guy and kick Dylan out. Instead of bringing up their issues with Dylan, Claire simply asks if he wants pizza for dinner.
Phil Can't Take It Anymore
Dylan and Haley (Sarah Hyland) push Phil (Ty Burrell) over the edge. Phil draws up new rules for Dylan living in the Dunphy house. Claire (Julie Bowen) comes over the top and kicks Dylan out of the house completely.
Jay and Mitch Try to Get Even
After Earl pulls a prank involving a billboard, Jay (Ed O'Neill) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) break into Earl's office to get even. Jay comes up with a plan to put his "deal" on Earl's cigars and then send Earl the photo long after he's smoked them. Mitchell starts having second thoughts after he figures out he'll have to take the picture of Jay's "deal." Earl foils the plan when he catches them in his office.
Luke Chooses to Help Alex
Luke (Nolan Gould) goes back to Alex's room to find gum to help freshen his breath. Alex (Ariel Winter) tells Luke that Sanjay broke up with her and is seeing someone else. Luke tries his best to comfort Alex and ultimately decides to stay back instead of going back to the other dorm room with girls.
