The Glitter Report: Week 8 - Dance Duels

Dance Duels Night was filled with sparkling routines, incredible comebacks and a wee bit of controversy. The hullabaloo came courtesy of the always outspoken guest judge Abby Lee Miller of Dance Moms fame and the never-shy Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Let’s get right to the highlights of Week 8 of Dancing with the Stars!

Dance of the Night 1: We all know what went down with Amy last week. Her back seized up big time after her performance. She had to be taken to the hospital, but the doctor determined that she could continue in the competition. However, her rib continues to pop out of place if she moves wrong. Think that’s going to stop Amy Purdy from giving it her all? No way.

Controversy to the Maks: Professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy has always been one to keep his opinions to himself. Wait a minute. No, he hasn’t! See what he has to say when Erin asks what he thinks about guest judge Abby Lee Miller after her critique of his rumba with Meryl.

That’ll leave a Mark: Who knew Mark Ballas could sing? Well, everyone does now! The dancing pro took to the stage with microphone in hand to perform the debut of his new single “Get My Name.”

The Quotes Are In:

Bruno (re: Charlie’s quickstep): “He was off the starting block like a thoroughbred at the Kentucky Derby.”

Len (to Danica after her tango): “You were on it like a bonnet.”

Maks (re: guest judge Abby Lee Miller): “I really don’t care for anything that she has to say.”

Abby (re: Candace’s quickstep): “I would have just dropped her on the floor and walked off.” (she was speaking about the piece choreographically, of course.)

Bruno (to James after his Viennese Waltz): “It was like a romantic blossoming under the cherry tree.”

Carrie Ann (to Amy after her Argentine tango): “I was watching you and I swear I felt like I stopped breathing three times because what you’re doing is incredible.”

Tom (to Maks and Val’s grandmother): Who do you like better, Val or Maks?

The Dance Duel: The first-ever Dance Duel featured two teams that beginning a routine together. In mid-performance, the pros stepped off the floor to let the stars complete the dance together. The competition was tough. At the end of the duel, Amy and James won the day. See why:

Highlights of the Night: We had to say goodbye to Danica McKellar as we head into the semifinals. Now here’s a rundown of all the Week 8 routines as the remaining teams continue their quest for the coveted Mirrorball Trophy.
