The Bachelor 2019 Recap, Week 8: Who Went Home After Hometowns
Being the traditional, family-oriented guy that he is, Bachelor Colton Underwood had a serious task this week as he journeyed to four bachelorettes' hometowns this week on The Bachelor: secure a blessing to marry each of these ladies from their fathers. A simple enough task, but one that turned out to be anything but simple once Colton and these dads got to talking. You can watch The Bachelor season 23, episode 8 right here on ABC.com or in the ABC app, or read on for highlights and spoilers to find out who went home on The Bachelor!
Caelynn's Hometown Date
Whoa whoa whoa. Let's slow down a little bit before we get into the hometowns. There's important business to handle first, such as...
Colton Takes a Shower
This week, it looked like Colton was showering at a hotel. Hard to say where, unfortunately, although it's possible this is Colton's residence as well. If so, nice place, Colton! Anyway, this shower was not quite as breathtaking as, say, an outdoor shower in Southeast Asia, but it did look refreshing. It was a little low on steam but not every shower has to look like it's on a movie set for some adult thriller, guys—it just has to feature Colton. Now, where were we...
Caelynn's Hometown Date
Caelynn was up first, in her hometown of Fredericksburg, VA. A carriage ride through town kicked off the festivities, but then it was right to the family gathering. Caelynn's sister Arianna was immediately skeptical—not necessarily about Colton, but more the process in general. Her mom and stepfather, John, had similar concerns, but Caelynn was able to explain to all of them how Colton made her feel, which is, that she wants to get married to that guy. Caelynn also told Colton that her biological father was not the guy whose blessing he needed—it's John's. Caelynn told John that that's how she felt about his influence on her life, and you can watch that clip below, but you better have a box of tissues ready before you watch this:
I'M NOT CRYING YOU'RE CRYING. I mean, come on...when John says, "You know what I feel like? I feel like I did at least one thing right," if you're not at least tearing up a little, you might want to check your circuit board, you cyborg.
So did Colton get the blessing? After Caelynn told everyone how she felt, John and the rest of the family were happy to welcome Colton as a potential new family member someday down the road. Caelynn's in love, and she's excited about the future.
Hannah G's Hometown Date
Next up was a trip to Birmingham, AL, to see Hannah G and her family. Now, Hannah's family is a traditional southern family, so manners are a must. And the only way to be sure Colton would be ready for that is etiquette class:
Colton may be a handsome devil, but the jury's still out on whether he can add "Southern Gentleman" to his resume.
We've seen Colton and Hannah share some sparks, but to be honest, we haven't seen Hannah show a lot of emotions about their relationship. That all changed when Hannah was talking to her mom about the prospect of marriage, where the blonde beauty shed more than a few tears with her mom about how much she wants to be with Colton. The emotional display wasn't lost on Hannah's dad, Tom, who gave Colton the green light to marry his daughter.
Tayshia's Hometown Date
Tayshia immediately turned their date in Santa Ana, CA, into a trust exercise, as she blindfolded Colton upon arrival. It got crazier from there, as she drove them to a local airfield for an exciting day: skydiving. After bungee jumping in Singapore, Tayshia wanted to keep the pair facing their fears together. Colton was definitely worried, and created his own prayer for the occasion:
Priorities: Colton has them.
As intimidating as jumping out of an airplane at 12,000 feet might be, that was nothing compared to meeting Tayshia's friendly but imposing father, Desmond. Most of the family was concerned about Tayshia getting hurt again (she's been married before), but no one more than Desmond. He was skeptical of the process, so what would he say when Colton asked for his permission to marry his daughter:
So, that was...ouch. Not a great start. But after Tayshia had some conversations with her father, she was able to convince him that this was what she wanted and that she was ready, and he eventually said he trusted his daughter and would be happy to welcome Colton to the family.
Cassie's Hometown Date
From Santa Ana, it's just a quick drive over to Cassie's hometown of Huntington Beach, CA, which was Colton's final stop on the hometown tour. Cassie and Colton spent their day on the beach, with Colton enduring yet another class—surfing class, taught by Cassie. It probably went better than the etiquette class in Alabama, but that's not saying much. He didn't drown, which is probably the best result based on his pop-ups.
The feeling of water quickly rising above your head returned later that evening when Colton was hanging with Cassie's family. They all had tough questions for the new couple, and Cassie's father, Matt, had a particularly tense conversation with his daughter that had her on the defensive. That tension remained when Colton asked for his daughter's hand in marriage:
And this time, there was no conversation that fixed it. That was simply that: permission not granted. What would that mean for Cassie's chance at getting a rose? Hmm, if only there was some way that you could easily find out...
The Rose Ceremony
Four women. Three roses. One really tough choice for Colton.
Tayshia and Hannah G got the first roses, meaning close friends Caelynn and Cassie would be splitting up here. In the end, Matt's failure to give Colton his blessing didn't matter, as Cassie got a rose, and Caelynn was sent home. As we said earlier, she could really see their future together, so this completely blindsided her:
Next Monday, Colton and his three bachelorettes will have the Fantasy Suites at their disposal. And I don't know if you're aware of this, but Colton is a virgin, so that's bound to get pretty interesting. How interesting? HOW ABOUT FENCE JUMP INTERESTING?!? That's right, Monday you'll finally be seeing the moment you've been talking about all season.
And then on Tuesday—yes, there will be two episodes next week—it's time for the Women Tell All, when we get Colton and all the ladies who have already been eliminated this season together in one room to reopen wounds and help some of the ladies get some closure for their time with Colton.
Don't miss The Bachelor, MONDAY & TUESDAY 8|7c on ABC!
