Jo's Got a Secret...
Jo confides in Stephanie that she's found out surprising and unsettling news. Stephanie tells her she needs to talk to Alex about it, so Jo walks right up to Alex and asks if he wants kids. He's not prepared for this question yet. Is Jo pregnant?! Nope, it's not that...
Is That a Bunny Boiling in April's Pot?
Jackson is fed up with April, and wants her to move out. She went to the Middle East when she needed space, but now she won't give him two rooms to breathe. He feels like a reverse hostage in his own home. To April, that's the definition of a (happy?) marriage, but for her hubby, it's more like the road to divorce. April hunkers down and refuses to move out, but she's not expecting Jackson to call her bluff...
Cylons Are People Too, Maggie
A wedding invitation from her ex-boyfriend makes Maggie wonder if she should've broken up with him after all. So what if he spit when he spoke, and said "All-Timers" instead of Alzheimer's, he was ready to commit! This clear example of poor decision-making leads her to question ALL of her life choices, including the one that led to her living in her birth mother's home with her half-sister, and working with the "kind stranger" that fathered her. The life Maggie left behind, her parents' wedded bliss, was doomed without her. "It's like I flew to this planet on an exploratory mission, and the Earth blew up behind me, and I can't go back! And now I'm here with you aliens! Except I'm the alien."
Arizona Knows Alex Can Carry That (Emotional) Weight
Facing the impossible choice of which dying newborn twin to save, Alex is ready to cede the weighty decision to Chief Bailey. But Arizona refuses to let him pass off the responsibility. She tells Alex how in awe she's been since he stepped up and volunteered to shoulder that burden for the twins' parents. "If you give it to Bailey, you won't be able to look at yourself in the mirror, I promise you. You'll always wonder what kind of doctor you COULD be," she tells him. Luckily, she ends up being right about Dr. Karev, who ultimately saves the twin who could be saved.
Feminists Come in All Shapes and Heights (4'11" For Instance)
Richard confronts Bailey about the lowball salary she offered Dr. Grey for the Chief of General Surgery position. He tells her Meredith is worth more, and questions Bailey's feminism. She's the hospital's first female Chief of Surgery. But Bailey chides Webber for coddling Meredith, and points out that she's already mentored Grey. Now it's time for Meredith to stand up for herself. Plus, it's not Bailey's job to hand out money that wasn't asked for!
Whatever Jo Wants, Jo Gets
Jo confronted Alex about their future after finding out he and Izzie had frozen embryos together while they were married. Jo asked why he'd been planning to have kids with Izzie, but not with her, and they argued. After a tough night operating on dying newborn twins, Alex returns home with a new attitude. He tells Jo if a baby is what she wants, he's ready to make a baby. Right. Now.
