Nomadland Wins the Most 2021 Oscars

The 93rd Academy Awards have come to a close and what an evening it's been! Congratulations to tonight's winners, as well as all of this year's nominees. While things looked a little different this year, it was amazing to see everyone come together in whatever way they could to celebrate the spirit of film. NOMADLAND brought home the most Oscars 2021 wins this year with a total of three awards. The film, starring Best Actress 2021 winner Frances McDormand as Fern, received six nominations including Writing (Adapted Screenplay), Cinematography, Film Editing, Actress in a Leading Role, Directing and Best Picture. Chloé Zhao, the director of NOMADLAND, is the first woman to receive four nominations in a single year.

By the end of the evening, NOMADLAND had picked up three Oscars for Actress in a Leading Role, Directing and Best Picture.

Actress in a Leading Role went to Frances McDormand for her performance as Fern. Chloé Zhao took home the Oscar for Directing, making her the first Chinese woman and first woman of color to receive this award. And finally, NOMADLAND rounded off the night with the Best Picture Oscar. Congratulations to Frances McDormand, Peter Spears, Mollye Asher, Dan Janvey and Chloé Zhao on their huge win! During their speech, they thanked "all the hearts and hands that came together to make the movie."

Film Synopsis

Following the economic collapse of the small town of Empire, Nevada, Fern packs her van to explore a life outside conventional society as a modern-day nomad in the American West.

The 93rd Oscars, produced by Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh, were held on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at 8e|5p, and televised live on ABC and in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
