Jo Finally Stands Up for Herself

Jo is sick of the cold and dismissive way Meredith treats her, both as a doctor and as Alex's girlfriend. When Webber switches up the resident and attending pairings, Jo gets assigned to Meredith, and her resentment builds as Grey talks down to her, and even calls her Blake. The last straw for Jo is when Meredith brushes off a mistake, saying, "It's fine. You're just not Blake." Jo confronts Meredith about everything that's been bothering her, but Grey calmly says Jo is overreacting. Completely frustrated, Jo announces that she's done.

More Babies, More Problems

Ben is examining Arizona's patient Courtney (guest star Casey Wilson), an accountant who is pregnant with quadruplets, when he discovers a problem: one of the babies is missing! The doctors rush to get Arizona, who discovers that one of the babies has decided he wants to come into the world a little early. With Dr. Bailey's reluctant approval, Arizona makes a risky choice to deliver just one of the four babies and then leave the other three in the womb. Impressively, the operation is a success, and little Charles is born while his sisters remain inside.

Rita Moreno Is in the Building

Amelia and Riggs are shocked when Gayle (guest star Rita Moreno) arrives at the hospital and asks if her husband, who was seriously injured in an accident, is dead yet. "I don't want to see him until he is dead!" she proclaims, when the doctors offer to let her visit him. The situation is even more awkward because Gayle's husband's longtime mistress is present, and the doctors had been under the impression she was the wife. When their patient wakes up, he doesn't remember leaving Gayle, and believes they're still happy and in love.

April Is in Denial

Alex confronts April about hiding her pregnancy from Jackson. She gets defensive, but explains that she's protecting Jackson from getting hurt again. "It'll just be better if he doesn't know yet," she says. Alex tells April she's wrong, and she's making the situation worse. Frustrated, she walks away, but it's clear everything Alex and Arizona have been saying to her has gotten through when she goes to find Jackson before she leaves that night. To her horror, she walks in seconds after Arizona has betrayed her confidence and spilled the beans to Jackson. Things are about to get ugly.

Meredith's Mea Culpa

After Callie and Maggie tell Meredith that she is actually very hard on Jo, Meredith finds Wilson and apologizes. She explains she's very protective of Alex because of all the very bad luck he's had in past relationships. But Grey does have words of advice for Jo: "You are what you allow. And if you let them pluck off your shiny little insect wings, they will. So don't let them. Don't let me!" Jo is grateful for the apology, especially when Meredith adds that she is rooting for Jo and Alex to stick.
